especially agricultural ones, are in the hands of small and marginal players, commodity boards have proved an indispensable tool. However as in many government/quasi-governmental bodies, they have tended to deteriorate over the years and seem not to be hewing to their mandates. Which is what is causing the where WTO reigns, it is imperative that these boards continue to exist to own, in today s international marketplace.

They may have to be modified/reformed, made more representative, and their mandates retargeted.
