Foxconn may enter motherboard ODM market for notebooks

Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) intends to enter the motherboard ODM market for notebooks, according to Taiwan-based system makers. Foxconn is currently recruiting an R D team from the notebook industry, the makers pointed out, adding that the company will target staff at second tier PC makers such as Arima Computer, Uniwill Computer, and Micro-Star International (MSI). Some staff from Gigabyte Technology's notebook R D department are planning to join the EMS (electronics manufacturing services) giant, the system makers noted.

Foxconn declined to comment on the report. Taiwan-based notebook makers commented that Foxconn has matured its ability to design motherboards. Sooner or later the company will step into notebook-use motherboard manufacturing, the notebook makers indicated.
