The neighbourhood pizza guy racing to deliver on time could soon have competition from the guys at the video rental home delivery service. When sports-marketing major Nimbus enters the home entertainment rental market, its USP will be delivering DVDs in 30 minutes flat.
Nimbus has big plans for its video rental service.

Says Chairman Harish Thawani: We hope to pump in around Rs 150 crore and offer 60,000 movie titles in 56 cities. Services will be accessible through SMS, phone-ins and the Net.
India s home entertainment rental market has come a long way from the time when neighbourhood video libraries peddled scratched, frequently dodgy, prints from a modest list of mainstream titles.

And one reason why Nimbus needs to look for USPs is probably the presence of a robust competition that has already begun to make this market its own.
For the mohalla DVD parlour, the prognosis is grim. Today s customer is likely to log on to rental sites and feed in a list of movies she wants to watch from libraries with 20,000 or more titles.

She would expect them to be home delivered, two at a time and wouldn t be amused if she s penalised for not finishing watching them on time. And for renting four top quality prints in a month, she would expect to pay about Rs 199.
